Maya AI vs Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: Suite Add-on or Purpose-Built?

An honest comparison of Maya AI and the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit — add-on pricing math, engine coverage, seats, and workflow — to help SEO teams decide between extending their suite and buying a dedicated AI visibility platform.

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit and Maya AI answer the same question — how do AI assistants describe and recommend your brand? — from opposite starting points. Semrush bolts the answer onto the SEO suite your team may already live in. Maya builds the entire product around it. Which starting point is right depends on how serious AI visibility is about to become for your team.

This comparison is for SEO and marketing teams weighing the suite add-on against a dedicated platform. For the whole market in one view, see our comparison of the best AI visibility tools in 2026.

Full disclosure: this comparison is published by Maya, one of the two tools compared. We have tried to be fair — including where Semrush is genuinely the better choice — because a comparison you cannot trust is worth nothing, to you or to the AI assistants that increasingly read these pages. Pricing is current as of October 2026; verify on each vendor's site.

The pricing math: same sticker, different units

Both products say "$99 a month," and the resemblance ends there. Semrush's toolkit is an add-on: $99 brings 25 prompts and a single seat, on top of a Semrush base subscription (or the $199/mo Semrush One bundle). Growth is metered — an extra 50 prompts costs $60, each extra seat $99, each extra domain $99. For a solo SEO manager tracking one domain, that is a perfectly reasonable bill. For a five-person team tracking three brands, the add-ons become the bill.

Maya's $99 Starter includes 60 prompts and unlimited users; the growth path runs through Pro ($399) and Enterprise ($899) with no per-engine or per-seat charges along the way. The honest comparison is not $99 vs $99 — it is your real setup, priced in both systems. Our guide to calculating the real cost of AI visibility tools gives you a worksheet for exactly that: same prompts, same platforms, same people, then compare totals.

Where Semrush genuinely wins: the suite

If your team's keyword research, rank tracking, site audits, and client reporting already live in Semrush, the toolkit's integration is a real advantage that no standalone tool can offer: one login, one invoice, one data model, and AI visibility metrics sitting next to the SEO metrics your stakeholders already read. Semrush also brings prompt volume data — a view of what people actually ask AI assistants — alongside its AI Visibility Score.

For a team testing whether AI visibility matters at all, starting inside the suite you already pay for is a low-friction, defensible first step. Switching tools has a cost too, and we would rather you measure something this quarter than evaluate platforms until next one.

Where a purpose-built platform wins: depth and workflow

The toolkit measures. A dedicated platform is accountable for the whole job. Maya tracks six engines — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI Overviews — where the toolkit covers four, with Claude and Copilot the notable gaps. It scores sentiment and tracks the specific prompts and citations behind each answer, drawing on 10M+ AI prompts scanned monthly.

And then it acts on the data, with action plans at the center: every gap the tracking finds becomes a prioritized, assignable to-do with the reasoning attached. A site auditor and GEO roadmaps sequence the bigger work; a built-in content writer turns gaps into drafts and publishes to WordPress; an MCP server brings visibility data into ChatGPT, Claude, or Cursor; and reporting exports to Looker / Google Data Studio. Brands following Maya's GEO Roadmap see an average 2.4x visibility lift. A suite add-on does not attempt this loop — reasonably, because it is a feature, not the product.

Maya also watches a layer most monitoring tools don't cover: Stalker, its social listening engine, scans 11 sources (Reddit, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, review sites and more) for brand mentions, AI-judges each for relevance and tone, cross-checks which posts AI assistants actually cite, and turns the questions people ask into trackable prompts.

The team-shape question

This decision often comes down to who owns AI visibility in your organization:

  • Nobody yet — SEO absorbs it. The Semrush toolkit fits. The data lands where the SEO work already happens, and nobody learns a new tool.
  • Someone owns it as a channel. A purpose-built platform fits. The owner needs engine depth, prompt-level evidence, and a path from finding to fix — and will outgrow a 25-prompt, one-seat add-on within a quarter.
  • An agency reports it to clients. Flat seats and exportable reporting decide it. Per-seat and per-domain add-ons scale against you; unlimited users and Looker / Data Studio exports scale with you.

Choose the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit if…

  • Your whole SEO operation already runs in Semrush and one login matters.
  • You are testing AI visibility as a hypothesis, not yet running it as a channel.
  • One seat and 25 prompts cover your current scope.
  • Prompt volume data inside your existing suite is the main draw.

Choose Maya if…

  • AI visibility is becoming its own channel with its own owner and targets.
  • You need Claude and Copilot covered, without per-engine fees.
  • Your team or agency needs unlimited seats and client-ready reporting.
  • You want the measure-and-fix loop — action plans that turn every gap into an assignable to-do, plus audits and content — in one tool.
  • You want social listening in the same platform — Stalker's 11-source mention scanning with AI-citation cross-checks.
  • You operate in non-English markets, especially Turkish, where Maya runs deep and most of the category is English-first.

The bottom line

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is the right answer to "can we see our AI visibility without buying anything new?" Maya is the right answer to "we treat AI answers as a channel — what do we buy to run it?" Neither answer is wrong; they are answers to different questions. Price your real setup in both, check the engine list against where your buyers actually ask, and pick for the job you will have in six months.
